Create Your Own Adventure
Tired of the same old same old routine every day? Why not try an adventurous approach to life’s decisions?
Everyone loves a good story. In fact, that’s what life is made of. We all live to tell the stories of our lives. Every one of our stories is unique and every life story is full of drama, comedy, suspense and tragedy.
The next time you have a decision to make, choose your next adventure and say to yourself, "I'll do it for the story!"
How?
Instead of driving to work in ten minutes, take the bus. See who you meet. Have a random conversation with a perfect stranger. DO IT FOR THE STORY.
Instead of ignoring that idea that says, "TRY ME", go out and TRY IT! DO IT FOR THE STORY!
Instead of ditching the next man who asks you out, go out with him. DO IT FOR THE STORY you get to tell about it the next day.
Instead of following the crowd and going to your local community college, take a risk and go out of state. DO IT FOR THE STORY.
Make your life story one of adventure by leaving your fears and inhibitions at the door step. Shock yourself by choosing your own adventure! Go ahead- Write the story of your life!
DO IT FOR THE STORY!

Sam's Club Offers Free Thyroid Screenings on 10-8-11
BENTONVILLE, Ark., Sept. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Sam's Club is offering free women's health screenings to aid members in taking charge of their health. Few women are aware that thyroid disease can often be a symptom of other health issues and lead to serious conditions including cancer and infertility. On Saturday, October 8, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., every Sam's Club with a pharmacy will offer all women*, members and non-members alike, free and simple tests that check thyroid health.
Thyroid disease affects millions of people in the U.S., most of whom are women. The disease causes the body to use energy either more slowly or quickly than it should, causing weight loss or gain, hot or cold flashes or drastic changes in energy level. Many people who have thyroid problems do not know until they are tested.
"The estimated number of people with undiagnosed thyroid disease may be 10 percent. For women, the risk is even higher. A woman faces as high as a one in five chance of developing thyroid problems during her lifetime, and that risk increases with age and for those with a family history of thyroid problems," said Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president, Sam's Club Health and Wellness. "Our free thyroid screenings are a quick and easy way for women to make sure their bodies are functioning and will continue to function in a healthy way."
The free screenings will include a TSH test (a simple test for thyroid disorders), blood pressure and BMI tests, typically valued up to $150 per person. During the screenings, Sam's Club pharmacies will also offer free samples of women's health-related products and awareness information.

Don't Kill Your Salad With Salad Dressing
Any combination of fruits and vegetables will make a healthy and fulfilling salad. When reviewing your choices for your salad dressing stay away from French dressing which has the highest calorie count. Ranch, Blue Cheese and Caesar dressing are also silent killers.
Try using oil and vinegar to accent your salad. Canola oil and Olive oils are your best choices. If your restaurant does not offer oil and vinegar, ask for fresh salsa to top your salad or visit your local grocery store and buy a box of Walden Farm's dressing packets to carry with you in your purse. Walden Farm's dressings contain no fat, calories, carbs or sugars of any kind.
You don't have to kill your salad to enjoy it. Just a small change in your eating habits will definitely increase your quality of life.

Women in Saudi Arabia are not allowed to drive nor travel freely without male guardians. Earlier this year when Saudi Arabia elections took place, groups of women showed up to cast their votes but were turned away. Another group of women who are called pioneers of the "Saudi Women Revolution" defied tradition by taking to the streets in cars to protest their disgust with the laws.

Savvy Blogger We Love- Amaia Ormazabal
Age: 20
Location: Donostia, located in the Basque Country, Spain
Twenty-year-old Amaia Ormazabal is an avid tennis player and dedicated student currently earning a dual degree in Business Administration and Management and Computer Science Engineering. To some she seems to be just another happy go lucky college student but those who know her well are aware of her secret- Amaia's passion is maintaining pleasure in her life.
Amaia is the force behind the blog called JustHedonism. In it, she shares stories of how she practices and appreciates the hedonist lifestyle, which consists of being completely devoted to the pursuit of pleasure.
"It's not the definition of hedonism what has fascinated me since I heard about it for the first time at school," Amaia recalls. "But the idea of actually putting it into practice as a way of maximizing pleasure and being happy." After analyzing the definition of hedonism Amaia realized that people tend to try to change their external situations when they are trying to change our mood. "We are always thinking about how external situations should be to make us happy. But the key to achieve maximum pleasure is inside all of us, not outside. We should try to change ourselves, instead of the environment," Amaia suggests. "I started analyzing the situations of my life which made me unhappy, and thinking about what could I change in my life to be happier. But soon I realized that the problem wasn't actually in my external circumstances, but in my perspective, my way of perceiving and acting in certain moments," Amaia shares. "And this is such a great conclusion! Because suddenly, happiness is actually more on my hand than ever! Now it doesn't depend on the environment, which you often can't change, it depends on me. It doesn't mean this is an easy way, it's not easy to learn, but in my particular case it's been definitely worth it."
Amaia's blog began as a fashion blog but she says its not just about fashion, it's about her pursuit of pleasure every single day. "It's also a lifestyle blog, where I show some of my passions. I'm a tennis player, and I show some of my travels and street and sport outfits in the blog," says Amaia. "People who read my blog are usually women who like fashion and feel inspired with my pictures, but also people who feel identified with my way of thinking and living, cause I also share inspiring videos, songs or quotes that I like."
The pure hearted fashionista believes that fashion is a very important part of the hedonist lifestyle. "How we dress can make us feel comfortable, feel ridiculous or feel sexy. It can even make us feel powerful!" Amaia explains. "It can define our personality and it's the very first impression anyone has of us. I love fashion because you can show lots of things with your clothes, your personality, your mood. for me fashion and hedonism are related, and I use fashion to feel the way I want to feel, or show what I want to show at any time."
Amaia has certainly amassed quite a following of women who enjoy her good spirited nature and love for life. To visit her blog to learn more about pursuing pleasure everyday, please visit Just Hedonism.
EDITORIAL: Capitalism Fails
Politics & Society Columnist
Capitalism is private control of production and consumption of goods and services. It is this system that has failed us miserably in the last few decades only to have recently materialized to what we see today. Unemployment is currently above 9%, if you include the underemployed (those who work, but do net get paid enough or work in a field they are overqualified for) the figures jump up to almost 20%-30%, depending on whose numbers you look at. Capitalism has failed us, today Corporations are sitting on a treasure chest filled with over $2 Trillion dollars on balance sheets and the poverty rate is climbing astronomically.
Today these large corporations hold more cash and assets than 80% of the population. A generation has gone to school and graduated without any promising job prospects to pay down their debts and satisfy their intellectual minds. More people today are in debt, overworked, underpaid, have little savings or cash on hand. Inflation continues to rise, petroleum keeps fluctuating around $3.50 per gallon with little hope of it going down, which has in itself caused the price of everything else to go up. Things are looking grim, there are threats of the world financial markets collapsing, people are losing their homes to foreclosure at a dizzy speed, tent cities are popping up all over the place, job growth is at a stand still...Capitalism has utterly failed us.
Capitalism cannot survive without the exploitation of others. Whether the other is you, me or the person that lives across the world in places like Asia, Africa and Latin America. There may have been a time when Capitalism worked, but that time has passed and it is time that a new system arises. One that benefits the people and strives to ease the suffering of all peoples across the world. One that claims the world’s resources to belong to the people, not the private interests of the few. A world were cooperation is valued over competition and life is respected. Where profit does not and can not supersede the life of an individual. The world is abundant for us all, why not find that balance?
The good news is that there are alternatives, some of which will not work, others that are bashed because they do not invoke power to the few and some that deserve exploration. I do not know the answer, but I do know that Capitalism has failed 99% of us in some way, shape or form. One of the first solutions need to be along the lines of providing basic needs to the world’s population, stopping environmental degradation, stopping human rights abuses, restoring our world’s Oceans, and facilitate a switch from fossil fuels to renewable energy. While this takes place we as a civilization need to decide where we go from here and how best to operate in balance with the Earth and other species.
Technology could help us meet many basic needs, while we delve more in the realms of spirituality, science, the arts and co-creating something beautiful. As the energy heats up and the masses awaken, there will be more pressure against Capitalism and the status quo. Thinking and dreaming up innovative ways to live now will prepare us for that moment of chaos and rebirth. There are never any endings without new beginnings, and as we are faced with a big question mark and resist the change that we so desperately need and fear, you must remember you are not alone. As the Occupy Wallstreet protest heat up, stay calm and turn off the television, fear is a tool to hold you back. Join in on the resistance and tune into yourself and the world around you.
Peace & Harmony,
Christina

My Savvy Sister of The Week- Nikki Geter
Contributing Writer
Ever since she was just a young girl, Nikki Geter knew that she would someday be her own boss.
She had always been a loner and learned about life from the strong group of women in her life. She has challenged and pushed herself to reach her dreams, including putting herself through college to earn 3 degrees, one being an MBA and being cautious of negative influences attempting to take advantage of a young entrepreneur.
At 31 years of age, Nikki Geter is living her dream as CEO of Liquid Events, an events management company based in Rock Hill, South Carolina. “We specialize in the development, and implementation of various special events, such as weddings, celebrations, corporate events, etc. My goal is to make sure that each bride, party organizer, or corporate client goes into his or her event knowing they have nothing to worry about because my team is already in place,” she shares. We were also pleased to discover that Liquid Events also offers an in house photography division directed by lead photography Brittany Taylor.
“I have developed a team of professionals that not only puts the needs and desires of each client first, but also continue to develop their individual skills in order to secure their position at the top of their specified field of expertise,” says Nikki.
She also takes pride in the fact that she encourages an unpretentious relationship with each client. “What sets me apart from other people in my field is the fact I establish a one on one relationship with each client,” Nikki says. “I want them all to feel comfortable enough even when their event is headed by one of my team members to come talk with me personally if they feel something is not being handled correctly. Liquid Events is my company, my brand, my name I have to make sure everything is up to par.”
Nikki definitely has a strong work ethic and is also her own harshest critic. “I find myself saying I need more bookings, I need more bookings even though I have just left a contract signing…and I put more pressure on myself than anyone from the outside could ever do,” she says. One savvy business owner that she admires is fashion mogul Kimora Lee Simmons. “She is very strong minded and juggles life betterthan anyone else in the industry.”
The ambitious businesswoman admits that she faced many obstacles when starting Liquid Events. “Starting a new company is a challenging task. Patience is not a virtue that I have completely accomplished yet but I am working on it,” Nikki admits.
The CEO divulges that the most rewarding part of being the owner of her own business is earning her independence. “Every entrepreneur wants the same things, freedom to be creative and financial success. My goals for the future are to develop Liquid Events into an event management powerhouse for the southeast. Another reward of owning my own company is the reality that I hold my own destiny in the palm of my hand and no one else can control it. With God’s grace I will accomplish all of my goals and see my dreams unfold,” Nikki says.
What advice does Nikki have for every woman out there aspiring to become an entrepreneur but afraid to make that first step in becoming their own boss? “Step out on faith. I still get nervous sometimes because one of my biggest fears is failure. In order to be great and accomplish my dreams I have to facethe possibility of failure straight on,” Nikki shares.
